-Doing right is even harder than it sounds o_o?-
Japan's much touted robotics program turns out to be more a product of Anime and Manga legend that reality.
Following the massive earthquake and disastrous tsunami Japan's citizens stoically went about the process of recovery. The Japanese people are among the most honorable in the world. Unfortunately, they are sometimes poorly led. Japan's on site managers decided (after months) that it would be better to use robots rather than humans
in contaminated areas. The managers tumbled to the idea that robots could stand more radiation than the human body. To reduce the sacrifice of brave citizen workers in the high radiation zones, managers approved the use of a robot. The robot soon became hung up on stairs. Reminiscent of daleks the robot proved at a loss without a cleared ramp. The daleks on fixed rollers could not use stairs. Daleks were featured as perennial villains on the the popular BBC series Dr. Who. Come on guys get some adults with a couple of brain cells in there
and produce a functional bot.
Apparently the only functional remote controlled mobile robots are in the hands of college students in American parks and back yards.
Just to cap the stack a Honeywell robot has engine failure. The remotely controlled helicopter failed while taking samples over the damaged nuclear plants. Then the Honeywell device crashed on the roof of one of the remaining buildings. Engine failure-Please. Stairs-Please.
