Montgomery County, Maryland
The government has run riot.. A Montgomery county bureaucrat strolling around the U.S. Open golf tournament found some kids running a lemonade stand. Then using FDA guidelines the Bureaucrat issued the children a $500 fine.
The small children had pledged half of their earnings to cancer research. The mother of several of the children said, 'This shows that there is no American Dream anymore.' Bureaucrats are not allowing kids to contribute to cancer research either. Like all bullies, the bureaucrats came up with excuses when the bullying was questioned. According to the bureacrat felt the kids were going to make too much money. So in the bureaucrat's poor judgement why not have Montgomery county take it all and then some. In advance of course for lemonade the children would not be allowed to sell. With typical government bureaucratic logic, the thugish county employee fined the heck out of the children. The bureaucrats tried to excuse their action by the fact that the children had several coolers of lemonade. ( It is wrong for these children to raise too much for cancer research.) The blatant unfairness of the fine was accentuated by the home owners on either side of the kids selling parking spaces on their lawns for $50 a space. Some are more equal than others. -Don't you know.
Jennifer Harris, bureaucrat, said, "This is not a case of big bad bureaucracy coming down on little kids." So she says. But it sure looks like bad bureaucracy. A case of government gone rogue.
There is a happy ending to the story.
The bureaucrats rescinded the fine when faced with public outrage at their bullish tactics.
But the entrenpreneurial children were forced to give up their prime location and move far back from the corner. 'Safer for the children' - don't you know.
