-Doing right is even harder than it sounds o_o?-
What is critical thinking. Can you think, can you think critically. Can you recognize your innate bias?
Of course you can. You can read you can use a computer and play video games of course you have critical thinking skills. You may not. You like most of your mates probably do not not have a high level of critical thinking skills. And playing football doesn't make you a chef.
Getting wet does not teach you to swim and just because you can swim does not enable you to perform as a deep sea diver. Going on a cruise does not make you a sailor any more than being in the navy qualifies you as a navy seal.
Can anyone claim sentience much less humanity without basic critical thinking skills?
So you think you are a critical thinker. Yeah sure. For starters what is propaganda? Do you know what propaganda is or you just know it when you see it? What is the difference between misinformation and disinformation? What is reasoning by association? What are a few of the words that may indicate bias in a given statement? Can you name some of those words? Hmmmm.
Have basic critical thinking skills?
You are reading this site. There is still hope for you. Most people have very limited critical thinking skills. Reading a blog or watching a news vid does not mean you have critical thinking skills.
Just because John Stewart says it doesn't automatically make it true any more than if Alex Jones says it.
No it does not make it true even if Fareed or Christiana or your favorite leader says it.
A critical thinker does not see the news or hear the sermon and rise up saying 'halleluyah, I have the truth!'. Just because someone is very knowledgeable or highly educated does not insure the possession of critical thinking skills. Just as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing would not enable you to repair
automobiles. Neither would a master mechanic necessarily have the skill to render medical aid. Though some nurses know how to repair cars just as some mechanics may have medical skills. Having skills in one area does not automatically give one skills in another area.
It takes more than reading an article and some effort on your part to become proficient as a critical thinker. It takes practice. It takes experience. It takes awareness that most never come to.
Following is an old educational film. It is boring in places. But is free. You get to see how people dressed 60 years ago anyway. So take a look at it and then think about what that stodgy guy was trying to tell that greasy kid. I got it from the Philospher's Stone a U.K. site. (No I don't believe everything that is on the site. But some of it is quite credible and the rest is quite eclectic to say the least.)
What is Not in the News may be More Important than what Is in the News.
If it sounds too good to be true, it is probably a scam or a lie.
Oh. Your assignment is to discover some of the words that may indicate a false or misleading statement.
Did you really get a secondary education or was it just indoctrination?
